Abstract Geometry and Gender

Exhibited artists: Rocío Gordillo, Julienne Guévin Kamena, Marie-Claire Lalancette, Sharmistha Ray & Jeanie Riddle

Curated by: Emireth Herrera Valdes & Dulce Pinzón

Plataforma ArtBase and Produit Rein Gallery present Gender and Abstract Geometry, a group exhibition featuring artists: Rocío Gordillo (Mexico), Julienne Guévin Kamena (Quebec-Cameroon), Marie-Claire Lalancette( Quebec), Sharmistha Ray (Kolkata-New York), and Jeanie Riddle(Montreal-Mexico City), and curated by Emireth Herrera Valdes and Dulce Pinzón. These five artists from distinct backgrounds, converge through their investigations of spirituality, reality, abstraction, and identity. Their diverse practices intersect in their unique approaches to abstraction to engage with personal, cultural, and philosophical themes, reflecting how each artist transcends traditional boundaries, navigates and reinterprets their perception of the world, offering new ways to see, feel, and understand life.

Gender and Abstract Geometry reimagines gender within the realm of abstraction, providing an alternative framework for constructing subjectivity and formal experimentation. The exhibition amplifies the voices of artists whose practices are deeply rooted in self-exploration and the reconstruction of identity, particularly as their work evolves and matures.

This exhibition is organized by Plataforma ArtBase, a Mexican art production platform. Since autumn 2021, it has been located in Montreal, committed to boosting the visibility and career longevity of emerging artists with a focus on elevating artistic practices from the Latin American diaspora, particularly in the US and Canada, Plataforma ArtBase bridges the gap between national and international artists and art enthusiasts, thereby enriching cultural dialogue across borders.
