Deshabitadas – Déshabitées
Exhibited artist: Carmen Isasi
Curated by: Agathe Piroir
The exhibition DESHABITADAS addresses the plight of migrants who are forced to risk their lives crossing the Mediterranean or the Atlantic in the hope of finding a better life in Europe or supporting their families.
Isasi’s works, evoking drifting garments, symbolize the lost bodies they once covered, highlighting the magnitude of this human tragedy. This project aims to bring visibility to this conflict and raise awareness of the often-overlooked reality of these migrations.
“We now speak of ‘migrants’ rather than ‘emigrants’ or ‘immigrants,’ emphasizing their transient state, like birds passing through.”
— Lisi Prada, Catalogue “Deshabitadas. Carmen Isasi,” Sala de Arte El Brocense, Cáceres, 2022.
