Conversations in alcoves and small salons

Exhibited artist: Karine Demers

Inspired by paper as a medium, it is by folding it into simple shapes and in very large numbers that Karine Demers’ artwork is constructed. Her exhibition “Conversations in alcoves and small salons (Conversations d’alcôves et petits salons)” draws inspiration from her observations of architecture, its light, and different angles. The finest expression of craftsmanship can be found in architecture. Ornementations transcend the mere concept of functionality. These details are an invitation to slow down, to look beyond the overall shape or feel of a building.

In her compositions, Demers is fascinated by this same repetition of abstract elements. The details that create the whole. In life, as in her creative practice, Demers faces the constraints of habit disorders (OCD) and anxiety. These restrictions become a creative force in her work. Art allows Demers to liberate herself from this emotional push and pull, offering an outlet for her emotions and the affirmation of her personality. Her approach is a reflection on a desire to stage beauty in the vulnerability of our existence. “Conversations in alcoves and small salons” offers views a visual tribute to human creativity.
